Specify by zone, not by room
The single most common mistake we are called in to correct is a gym floored in one thickness throughout. It either over-spends on the cardio area or under-protects the free-weight floor — usually both.
Mapping the zones before you buy costs nothing and changes the material bill significantly.
- Cardio and machines — 6 to 8 mm rubber roll
- Free weights — 12 to 15 mm rubber roll or tile
- Deadlift and Olympic platforms — 15 mm or a layered build-up
- Functional turf lanes — sled-rated artificial turf
- Studio, stretch and yoga — EVA foam or thin rubber
