Pickleball Court Construction in India: A Complete Guide
Court dimensions, base preparation, acrylic surface systems and realistic timelines for building a pickleball court in India.

Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in India, and demand for properly built courts is rising with it. Here is what actually goes into constructing one.
Court dimensions
A regulation pickleball court plays 20 ft × 44 ft for both singles and doubles. The recommended total playing area, including run-off on all sides, is 30 ft × 60 ft. Building to the minimum leaves players with no safe margin behind the baseline.
The base is the project
Almost every surface failure traces back to the base, not the coating. A pickleball court typically sits on a reinforced concrete or asphalt base with a designed slope of roughly 1:100 in a single plane for drainage. Water that ponds on the surface will shorten the life of the acrylic system considerably.
Acrylic surface build-up
A synthetic acrylic system is applied in layers: an acrylic resurfacer to fill and level, several cushion or texture coats depending on the specification, then colour coats and finally line marking. Each layer needs proper cure time — rushing the schedule is a false economy.
Cushioning options
More cushion coats mean more shock absorption and more comfort for players, at the cost of a slightly slower surface. Clubs and academies with long daily playing hours usually benefit from a cushioned system; budget community courts often use a standard build-up.
Realistic timelines
For a new court on fresh ground, expect the base work to dominate the schedule. Concrete needs a proper curing period before any acrylic coating is applied, and the surfacing itself is weather dependent. Resurfacing an existing sound base is dramatically faster.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Building to playing dimensions without run-off space
- Sloping the court in two directions instead of one plane
- Coating a base that has not fully cured
- Skipping the resurfacer on an uneven base
- Marking lines before the colour coats have properly set
